Tiger Wood’s Steel Building – A Hole in One

In early 2023 Allied Steel Buildings was elected to design and fabricate a first-of-its-kind structure for both Allied and the golfing industry. Conceived to support the launch of an all-new, tech-infused golf league, the 250,000 square-foot venue accommodates close to 2,000 fans plus a 64’x46′ simulator screen and a short game-complex the size of four basketball courts. With sand bunkers and virtual putting greens within a 3,800 square-foot putting surface, the entire playing surface area inside the venue amounts to 97 yards by 50 yards (roughly the size of a football field).

Your Challenge, Our Opportunity

Initially planned to launch in 2024, the opening was delayed by unexpected damage to the original non-steel structure, making it critical for Allied to deliver the project in record time. The project’s general contractor contacted Allied in December 2023, citing Allied’s reputation for getting steel on the ground within exceptionally tight timelines. The building’s height and interior space requirements presented a secondary challenge that we were eager to tackle. Straight columns from typical manufacturers measure no more than 60′ so most steel building engineers are limited to producing buildings that reach maximum heights of 65′. Allied’s unique fabrication abilities allow us to produce 72′ straight columns, allowing us to engineer buildings that stand up to 80′ tall, putting the desired design of this project well within reach.

Designing the Future – Steel Building

Working with the general contractor, a third party architect, and the venue’s owners and investors, Allied produced an innovative design that accommodated the structure’s unique height and clearance requirements. This included a 212′ clear span which provides sufficient interior space for the building’s key sporting and spectator functions. The impressive venue consists of one 80′ tall building and three 40′ buildings with flat roofs and decks that house air-conditioning units. With insulated panel walls, a standing seam roof, a grand entrance feature, and Allied-produced steel featuring an attractive and protective finish coat, the innovative new building has become a Palm Beach landmark and a prominent new fixture in the world of golf.

Driving Success Together

While our machines and facilities are to credit for our ability to engineer this exceptional structure, it was once again our relationships that allowed us to overcome the project’s key challenge: timing. Having already worked several times with the project’s erector Sure Steel, we were experienced in coordinating with them to meet their installation timeline requirements. By ensuring our steel was on site by May 2024, we gave Sure Steel the confidence needed to ensure the building was operational by Jan 2025, guaranteeing our joint success.
