Engineering for Efficiency. Two retail facilities for a Texas commercial developer in Dripping Springs, TX.
In June 2022, a Texas commercial developer, set out in search of a cost-efficient building solution for two side-by-side mixed-use retail facilities. Discouraged by the cost of traditional structural steel buildings and curious about the benefits of pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) construction, they contacted Allied Steel Buildings to determine if we could bring their vision to life. Using the client’s preliminary drawings for a structural steel building, we collaborated with their architect to develop new drawings for our steel building system.
Pre-Engineered Perks
From an engineering standpoint, because the various components of our building system work together rather than independently as they do in a structural steel building, we had to make major engineering adaptations that also made our building more efficient. With this added efficiency, we were able to develop a structure that used tapered columns and less steel throughout, leading to a significantly more cost-efficient project and faster build time.
Retail Steel Building – Redefining the Steel Building Look
Knowing that preserving the original design intent was our primary consideration, we embarked on an extensive design journey to develop a solution that exceeded our client’s expectations. The final outcome incorporates a variety of attractive and innovative materials, including 3-inch insulated wall panels with an embossed stucco-like finish and steel panels with a woodgrain aesthetic. With the client’s approval, fabrication commenced in February 2023 and delivery was underway by April. Installation progressed swiftly and completed in November 2023.
No Compromises, Just Great Design
Featuring primary steel produced by Allied’s manufacturing facility in La Coruna, Spain, a standing seam roof, a canopy over future storefront space, and a drive through for a fast-casual dining establishment, the retail building has few complexities from an architectural or engineering perspective, yet it stands out as an impressive example of the incredible design potential that our buildings have to offer.
The end result is an eye-catching, attractive building, well within the client’s desired budget. Using specialized materials and the help of our trusted network of vendors, we delivered exactly the look that the client wanted for at a lower cost than the alternatives they had previously explored.
Most importantly, our design required no compromises from the client to achieve this outcome.
