Metal Trades Manufacturing Facility in South Carolina
In 2021, Metal Trades, a leading steel fabricator and marine construction company, turned to Allied for a design-build solution for their new manufacturing facility in Charleston, South Carolina. With several major contracts on the horizon, the client needed a heavy custom steel fabrication facility that could accommodate their expanding business needs. Despite rising material costs, Allied worked tirelessly to earn the trust of Metal Trades, nurturing the relationship over the course of a year until the client was convinced of Allied’s ability to deliver their exact vision with top-quality service.
Thanks to Allied’s unwavering attention to detail and involvement at every stage of the project, we were able to outshine our competitors and respond quickly to unexpected challenges, keeping the project on track for completion by the second half of 2023.
By working closely with the client, Allied was able to design a state-of-the-art facility that met all of Metal Trades’ unique requirements, from heavy machinery to environmental concerns. Above & Beyond Manufacturing Facility Solutions
At the heart of this project was a critical requirement to accommodate four 100-ton cranes for the 60’ tall structure. From the very start, Allied took on the challenge of designing every detail of the structure, leaving no stone unturned. With over five-foot-tall runway beams and extra steel framing at each end, the design incorporated four massive 85’x55′ doors. What was even more crucial was the need to withstand the harsh environmental conditions of the coastal location, as the client had previously experienced extensive rusting on their non-Allied buildings.
To address this challenge, Allied came up with a solution – a white finish coat on all primary steel. This approach outshone the competition. Thanks to Allied’s 2020 investment in our Spain-based factory, we can offer this exceptional protective finish coat on all our projects.
Throughout the project, Allied’s coordination and attention to detail were exemplary, earning high praise from Metal Trades. Our team worked closely with the client, regularly meeting face-to-face to ensure every aspect of the design met their expectations. This level of in-person involvement allowed for real-time adjustments and modifications, ensuring the project met all necessary requirements.
From standing seam roofs to extra framing, every detail was carefully planned out, resulting in a seamless construction process. Feet Firmly on the Ground
After months of planning and preparation, Allied’s delivery of over 1,000 tons of steel in March 2023 marked a significant milestone for the Metal Trades manufacturing facility project.
However, an unexpected incident at the port threatened to derail the project timeline. Luckily, Allied’s team members were on-site and able to quickly identify and address the issue, ordering replacement frames and avoiding future conflicts. This incident highlights Allied’s commitment to proactive problem-solving and attention to detail, ensuring that every aspect of the project is carefully monitored and managed. Our team’s ability to respond swiftly to unexpected challenges is a testament to our expertise and dedication to delivering top-quality design-build solutions to our clients.
