What a Time to be On Time! The Venue at Wilmington Brewing Company

In October 2020, Allied Steel Buildings delivered Wilmington Brewing Company‘s first ever event venue, a 5,000 square foot space located on a uniquely shaped 3-acre lot. Brewery owners John and Michelle Savard wanted a structure that made the most of their square footage, while complimenting the aesthetics of their adjacent brewery and taproom, so they set out to find a trustworthy partner to help turn their structural steel building design into reality. With the encouragement of their architect and general contractor, John and Michelle partnered with Allied to source the materials and expertise needed to bring the most spacious of all the proposed designs to life. Little did they know at the time that the project’s constraints would include not only space but time and that Allied would go the extra mile on both fronts.

A Steel Building for a Brewery Building That Does it All

Plans for The Venue had been in talks for years but assembling the right team to collaborate and design, engineer, coordinate, integrate, and build exactly what the Savard’s wanted was crucial. There were a few requirements for the future venue; it had to be a steel building to match the stainless steel tanks of their brewery next door, it had to feel open and inviting with maximum seating and parking space, and it had to make the most of the triangular lot and wooded views. With the help of their architect from Dogwood Architecture and general contractor from Christopher Building company, John and Michelle were able to narrow down Allied as the key player they needed to help realize a design that celebrated each of these elements.

With the right team assembled, The Venue was designed and built from the ground up. Features like large glass garage doors and a patio were incorporated to add character and provide guests with additional outdoor square footage overlooking an attractive stream and wooded area. In addition to hosting events like can-openings, birthday parties, and wedding receptions, The Venue also had to serve as a temporary taproom while the old taproom underwent a renovation. With their solutions-based approach and some out-of-the box thinking, Allied brought to life a sleek, functional space with ample seating for 200, comfortable corners for conversation, and enough room outdoors for 50 parking spaces and food truck gatherings.

A Challenge Well Worth It

Delivering a steel building in October 2020 amidst a number of COVID-19 related challenges was no small feat, but Allied was up to the task, with Michelle crediting the team for being easy to work with and making her feel comfortable and excited about the project. At a time when nothing was on time, Allied delivered, holding true to their timeline and expectations. The Venue was the perfect opportunity for Allied to demonstrate its commitment to client satisfaction, with so many different parties, including the owners, architect, and general contractor trusting their experience and expertise. The end result: a thoughtfully constructed addition to a growing brewery, delivered on schedule despite challenging circumstances, to meet their needs for expansion on time.
