A Next Generation Aerospace Manufacturing Facility

In 2020, a high profile aerospace manufacturing industry leader engaged Allied Steel Buildings to deliver their most challenging and complex project to date.

With a strong track record of bringing the client’s past visions to life, we were trusted to take on the conception and creation of a structure that other pre-engineered metal building suppliers had deemed impossible.

Though it was evident from the onset that the building’s design requirements would push the limits of what was possible in steel building manufacturing, the client was counting on Allied’s resourcefulness, out-of-the-box thinking, and appetite to solve complex problems, to make the impossible possible.

A Tall Aerospace Manufacturing Ask

The ask, the second phase of a three-phase next gen manufacturing facility. It involved building a structure that reached heights of 97′, with extensive height and width clearances to accommodate interior functions and equipment. To support these challenging design-considerations, Allied explored innovative materials and made adjustments to the building’s connections and member sizing. The design phase was a highly thorough collaborative process between Allied and the client and by June 2022 the project moved to fabrication.

With adaptability baked into our identity, Allied is always prepared to pivot.

When the client requested changes that included reducing the building’s length and adjusting loads to accommodate the addition of several integral cranes, we remained undeterred in our commitment to exceed expectations. Though these changes came at the tail end of the project, we quickly carried out design analysis, redesigned the end-wall, and added additional loads to meet the building’s new requirements. We pivoted once more to adapt during our fabrication process. Due to other competing priorities, the client was unable to receive the building onsite within the initial timeline, Allied proposed changes to the fabrication schedule that took pressure off the client while liberating Allied to shift resources to other projects. With fabrication phased out optimally, delivery was slowed sufficiently to begin in September 2022 and end in December 2022.

Solving Challenges of Every Size

Featuring primary cold form steel framing, panels and cladding, a Megadoor, and parapets throughout, this exceptional structure was able to meet all of the client’s design considerations without compromise. Governed by site conditions, the building’s positioning allows for future expansion in a third phase intended to connect the first and second building phases. Innovation and adaptability were the keystones of this project as we solved unprecedented manufacturing and engineering challenges. The resulting building, with its demanding load requirements, expansive clearances, and staggering height, is a testimony to our abilities as undeterred solutionists.
