A Next Generation manufacturing facility for Aerospace

In early 2022 a high profile leader in the aerospace manufacturing industry approached Allied to produce a next generation manufacturing facility that would push the boundaries of pre-engineered metal buildings. Having successfully collaborated with Allied on 20 prior projects, the client referred us to their building’s erector, with confidence in our ability to handle complexities that few pre-engineered metal building suppliers could.

From the project’s inception, Allied played a pivotal role in shaping its scope, working hand-in-hand with the erector to provide everything they needed for a streamlined erection process. Together we explored all of the project’s angles to develop solutions that ensured optimal cost and expedited delivery times.

Designing and Detailing in Tandem

The project commenced in May 2022, with a target for materials to be ready for installation by October 2022. In collaboration with the client, we embarked on designing a structure that prioritized extensive clearances, flexible interior space, and other key features, drawing from experience on the client’s previous projects. To expedite the process, Allied strategically overlapped design and detailing, shortening the fabrication timeframe from fifteen+ weeks down to six weeks. Fabrication was efficiently completed by the end of September 2022, with steel promptly delivered in early October 2022.

We Prioritize Prioritizing

While we were confident in our ability to meet the client’s expectations, the project’s schedule was exceptionally tight. At the contract’s signing, Allied already had two other projects in production for the client. Transparent communication is a cornerstone of our approach, so we empowered the client with the information they needed to prioritize this project ahead of the others. Implementing a strategic bulk shipping approach, we expedited our steel delivery, freeing up valuable production space to advance on other areas of the project, while allowing the initial phases of installation to progress without delay.

No is Never our Answer

Innovation and adaptability were paramount as we tackled manufacturing challenges that other steel building manufacturers deemed insurmountable. With a solutions-oriented mindset and ongoing dialogue with the client, we explored new materials and made adjustments to the building’s connections and member sizing wherever necessary. The resulting structure is one of Allied’s larger projects, and an engineering feat in its own right. Comprising primary cold form steel framing, a Megadoor, and parapets throughout, this remarkable building accommodates demanding design loads, expansive clearances, and a wide range of complex design considerations to meet the client’s end goal.
