After successful delivering the seventh installment in a series of nine buildings for a client in Millwood West Virginia, Allied Steel Buildings was eager to demonstrate some new capabilities that would further benefit the project’s aggressive timing needs. The client, a general contractor seeking a steel building solution for a metal-product manufacturing facility, emphasized efficiency throughout the project’s design, fabrication, and delivery schedules, with the large building’s erection timeline driving skilled planning, coordination, and communication every step of the way.
New Strengths, New Advantages
Leveraging the capabilities of our new fabrication facility in McGregor, TX, we designed the structure to incorporate as many Allied-produced components as possible, providing valuable control over both quality and timing. Our new approach of sourcing from both fabrication facilities would require a coordinated team effort which, once executed successfully, provided valuable timing advantages, including avoiding long shipping schedules for several secondary components. This project marks the first of many that will leverage the full value of sourcing components from Allied’s dual fabrication facilities.
Record-Breaking Delivery
By May 2024, fabrication was underway at both facilities. The structure’s primary steel was fabricated at our first factory in La Coruna, Spain, while many secondary components were produced through a cutting-edge automated process within our new facility in McGregor, Texas. Behind the scenes, a coordinated production schedule ensured both factories supported one another seamlessly and by August delivery was underway. Allied’s logistics team managed a complex delivery schedule to produce record-breaking results: delivery in under one month! With 22 shipping containers carrying primary steel across the Atlantic and 23 trucks transporting secondary components domestically, all materials arrived smoothly and on time, with Allied’s seal of approval for industry-leading quality. Once erected in early 2025, the future manufacturing facility will feature TS-324 standing seam roof panels, PBR wall panels, and light transmitting panels.
A Logistics Feat, A Client Win
Allied’s logistics team was integral in ensuring the success of this highly coordinated effort. In addition to facilitating alignment in production schedules between Allied’s two factories and expediting delivery, our team provided daily schedule updates and exclusive attention to our client bringing new meaning to “we’re with you all the way.” Looking back at the success of this project, we are thrilled to explore future opportunities that leverage the immense value of both factories working together.
