You probably haven’t heard too much about Guyana, or Guyana steel buildings.
Don’t feel bad–you’re not alone.
Guyana
Guyana (or, officially, the Co-operative Republic of Guyana) is a small nation on the north coast of South America, and it hasn’t made many waves… yet. Just east of Venezuela, it’s also bordered on the south by Brazil and on its east by Suriname. It’s the third-smallest state by area in mainland South America, but it has a big future, and Allied is already there helping with that direction.
Oil Discovery
The big recent news that has people giving Guyana a fresh look is the discovery of significant oil reserves. You may have noticed that gas has gotten a lot more expensive lately, and that our President has asked for various nations to step up their oil production to help with the problem. Guyana is expected to be producing 350,000 barrels per day of oil by next month, and forecasts have that increasing to 800,000 barrels per day in 2025, and 1.2 million barrels per day by 2027. The total recoverable resources estimate for the newfound oil there is more than 9 billion barrels, one of the richest finds in recent years. That’s huge news in a world with ever-increasing energy needs. With only 790,000 people, Guyana is set to become the world’s leading oil producer on a per-capita basis.
Fastest-Growing Economies In The World
But even before the recent development in the petroleum world, Guyana was booming. It’s one of the five fastest-growing economies in the world. It already had a diversified economy, rich in other minerals including gold, diamonds, and bauxite (the ore used to make aluminum), and boasting of other market strengths in agriculture, livestock, fishing, manufacturing, engineering, and construction.
Allied’s Contribution
Allied Steel Buildings has been playing its part in that last category. We’ve recently delivered several structures in Guyana, for clients such as Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, Atlantic Marine &, TechnipFMC. All told, we have 24 completed projects in Guyana.
Guyana Steel Buildings
Build faster, Build smarter | Steel buildings offer distinct advantages for fast-growing markets like Guyana. They’re extremely reliable, a key consideration when building for long-term development opportunities like the oil and gas business. They offer excellent design opportunities for standardization and prefabrication, which are important for businesses that might replicate designs in multiple/different locations and time periods. And perhaps most important, they offer greater construction speed with less demand for specialized labor, meaning projects in developing areas can be completed quicker and easier
…getting important businesses off the ground as quickly as possible.
Supply Chain Reliability
Guyana is the only English-speaking country on the northern coast of South America. It’s easily accessible by ocean and lies just outside the Caribbean Sea. That means it’s significantly closer to American markets than many of the nations that US companies have looked to in recent decades for resources and supply chain help. As the current breakdowns with supply lines to those far-flung nations demonstrate, shortening our supply chains means better speed-to-market and more reliable supply.
We at Allied Steel Buildings look forward to many more projects in Guyana, as it becomes “the little nation that could” in our global economy.
