An Alternative School

An Alternative School 1024 410 Steel Buildings | Allied Steel Buildings

Chilean architect, Pedro Caparrós, was approached by the Board and Management Team of the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle in Concepcion, a French co-educational primary and secondary independent day school, in late 2014 with an unusual project – portable school buildings that could help expand the current educational facilities.

The school, which had outgrown its facilities,  planned on moving from its downtown location to the outskirts of Concepcion in the near future due to overcrowding of educational institutions in the area, and heavy traffic that often limited access to the school.

“Our proposal suggests an architectural body able to identify and reflect the values of the institution: ‘Discover, Perceive, Feel, Imagine, Create.’ and the value of caring for nature and their surroundings,” explained Caparrós, who decided to contact Allied Steel Buildings to spearhead the project.

Allied Steel was able to  fulfill the three main challenges facing this unique project: 1)create a portable structure that enable relocation in the future, 2)facilitate an expedited service due tight scheduling of project, and 3)provide quality materials within budget.

Allied delivered seven steel buildings that encapsulated Caparrós vision, and provided the most advanced pre-engineered design including colorful wall panels and insulated windows, walls, and roofs.

“It has been a very rewarding experience to be able to take Mr. Caparrós’ architectural vision and turn it into a beautiful new facility that will be enjoyed by the children of Concepción for years to come.” said Chris Rucker, Director of International Accounts at Allied Steel Buildings.

The project was completed in six short months, and benefitted not only the school and its students, but the concept of educational facilities in the region.
